Larry’s Message “No Fluff” (All Results) Marketing

January 18, 2011 Larry's Rants

This may not be a blog post that optimizes great on Google, because all the search terms are perfectly researched and scoped out. But the message is clear. Larry is talking ! As many of you who have been syndicating and following our blog have most obviously noticed, (and to be as transparent as possible), Larry has not been participating in the “online” portion of our business!!He will tell you that he has been “offline” participating in Revenue Generating Activities.

The attraction marketing concept and personal branding has been missing a BIG personality…and there has been some major reasons for this. As stated in the previous post, Larry has been a traditional Network Marketer for a very long time, and has preferred to keep it that way!  He will tell you all about it…STAY TUNED IN. You will learn! It was out of pure pressure that we got him to do this video!!

.

He is a MASTER MARKETER. Larry believes the BASICS are the BASICS and can be done when a master marketer is dropped into any city, with only the shirt on their back.  Watch and learn friends..this first video is simply an introduction. There will be much more to come very soon. Though you all know I am extremely prejudice (an rightly so!) I will tell you that Larry is my mentor and taught me how to do this business back when I was a scared housewife, determined to figure it out. He threw me in the cold water, and taught me to swim “the hard way” and I became a master marketer very quickly. If you want to learn…hang in there!

Do You Fear Making That Initial Contact With A Potential Prospect?

November 12, 2010 Network Marketing

By Tim Sales

I find this question being asked quite regularly, especially by those who may be new to the network marketing business. Some people are incredibly keen to succeed with MLM, but they are fearful about making the initial contact…especially with friends or family members.  There is a simple and clear explanation for this.

The reason that you fear making that first initial contact is because you are fearful of being a sales person and pushing to get the sale.  I used to be the exact same way — I also used to be fearful.  Can I tell you, though, that I did not overcome my fear? Because if I thought for one moment that I’ve got to go up and talk to somebody and sell them on something, I would be fearful still.

When you approach people, think of yourself as the one person who can help them, but the only way you can do that is by focusing on them and not on your MLM business.  And, the way you focus on them is by finding out what their needs, wants, and don’t-wants are. So, what I’m suggesting to you is just focus on finding out what it is that would help them.

So, what’s my process for approaching people?

If you have a person standing in front of you, you don’t know if they need or want your product or your business, so you have basically two choices:

Option one would be to ask them if they would be interested in hearing about something. I may be totally wrong here (I doubt it) but the overwhelming chances are that, most of the time, you are going to get a resounding “No, I am not interested.” You and I both know that‘s the likely outcome which is exactly what leads us to be fearful of making the initial contact.

Option two is to ask questions about the prospect, and their interests, and be a problem solver to whatever comes up on the subject that is directly related to your business or products.  In my opinion, based upon successful experience, being a problem solver is always a better approach than soliciting for business.

Just communicate with someone, just greet them. Be genuinely interested in them with no hidden agenda about selling them anything gnawing at you. Yes, and as your conversation unfolds, you may discover that they do qualify and may well be interested in your products or your network marketing business.

Hopefully you will see that approaching people this way is more natural (it certainly is to me) and because you have shown a genuine interest in them, you are far more likely to get to the point where you can invite them to look at your product or your MLM business.

If I focus on greeting someone, I’m never fearful about walking up to anyone.   If I’m focused on selling, I’m always fearful.  That’s the difference.

Much respect and admiration,

Tim Sales

What should I “pitch” first? My product or business opportunity?

November 10, 2010 Network Marketing

By Tim Sales

One of the first decisions you need to make before you actually speak to a prospect is whether you want to promote your product or the business.

In my opinion, which is backed by statistics, you can do either – just not both at the same time.

Leading with the product

I’ll first describe “leading with the product.” When you invite someone to look at your product and then around the same time (that’s a key part of it) tell them they can make money with it, well, I’ve not seen this work well.

In the few prospects I was able to get to talk to me about it, they felt “yucky” that I would be making money off them buying the product. I found a way around this, but this taught me that I don’t discuss buying a product and mention at the same time that they can make money doing what I’m doing.

Here’s how I was able to still promote the business by leading with the product though.

After the person has been a happy customer for a month or more, at the point where they place a second or third order, I ask them if they know anyone who would like to receive the same benefits as they have received. After they’ve given me a referral that wants to buy the product, before I place that referral’s order I will then call my original customer and tell them that I can take them to dinner and thank them for the referral or give them a commission for referring the prospect. I ask them which they prefer. This works the best.

Leading with the business

If you invite your prospect to look at your business you obviously have to tell them what the product is, but do not get heavily into product discussions. I’ve seen many times, especially with nutritional products, where the discussion heads into deep ingredient questions.  It’s really best just to keep the product description general.

Let me explain what I mean by general. I will talk about the product trends for the product my company carries; for example, let’s say I sell nutritional supplements.  I’d say something like, “Consumers spent X number of dollars last year buying supplements.” And that’s as deep of a discussion about products that I care to get into when leading with the business.

Otherwise it just becomes a Pandora’s Box – one question leads to another…that leads to another. This often starts because people want to try to impress their prospect by using big, technical words to show they’re smart – but all you do is confuse the heck out of them and have them think they have to become a biochemist to succeed.

Should I use a website that explains both my business and the products?

I don’t recommend it.  If you want to sell a product – have a web page with only that product on it. If that product is within a system of products that belong together it is fine to have the additional products within that system on the page. As an example if you sell weight management and you tell your prospect about the meal replacement shakes and on the same web page you have links to appetite suppressants that is fine – but do not include unrelated products or discussion on the compensation plan.

I remember when I saw my first presentation in network marketing the presenter said, “We show people the business and if they don’t want to be in the business we can get them on the product.” This sounded good to me, and I continually attempted to do it…but I was actually able to do it the way it was presented to me very few times.  I never had much success in creating new customers by leading with the business.

That concludes my first answer to leading with product or business. Now let me explain my other answer.

Answer Two

The best answer to whether you lead with product or business has to do with what the prospect needs/wants or doesn’t want.

This goes along with the qualify step of the Inviting Formula. If when talking with the prospect they have their focus on solving a weight management issue – then you would obviously lead with product – if of course you have a product that solves that problem for them.

Much respect and admiration,

Tim Sales

5 Rules You Must Follow When Prospecting Your Warm Market

November 8, 2010 Network Marketing

By Tim Sales

I’d like you to forget for a second that you’re in Network Marketing. What if you were starting any other kind of business like a retail store, a salon, or a construction company.  Where would you get your customers? Your employees? How about business partners? Where would you find them?

In one or more of those categories a friend, acquaintance or family member might be the right fit, maybe not. Maybe they know someone who would be the right fit. Somehow it always works itself back to an acquaintance, a recommendation or a referral.   In MLM, we called this your “warm market.”

Your warm market can be one of the greatest resources to your business.  And dealing with family and friends can be a blessing or a curse, but if you want your family and friends to continue to respect you, give you referrals, be your customer, and possibly say “yes” to your opportunity, I recommend you follow these five simple tips this holiday season when faced head on with your warm market.

Rule #1 Hold your tongue. Don’t ever insult someone for his or her decision not to participate with you in your business. Don’t tell someone they’re stupid for not doing business with you, even if it is “the way you talk to your brother.” It’s unprofessional and out of place.

Rule #2 Be wise. “No” rarely means no. That same brother in three weeks or three years could lose his job. If you’ve made a fool out of yourself, not only will he not do the business, he will beat you to all of your friends and tell them about the “scam” you’re in. All of this because “you told him” how stupid he was. That’s not wise.

Rule #3
Deal with it. For over 10 years I’ve dealt with objections, concerns, past failures, bad experiences, and more – all of which have all taught me how to successfully handle these issues.

Just as an experienced dentist knows that treating teeth is the easy part and the hard part is dealing with the patient’s “baggage” – like the time the “other” dentist stuck a six-foot needle in their gum when they were 14 years old. “Dealing” with these issues is what “wins” the patient. Once the trust is established you’ve got them for life or until you decide to stop servicing their needs.

Rule #4 Yes or No. Some prospects take just one conversation to be won over and some prospects take 10 conversations. (Nine of those conversations resulted in a “No” answer even though “No” was never stated.) If you take the thought process as being that either the prospect says “Yes” or “No,” then you’ll miss the art of communication and networking.

Suppose your company has 20 products. If your prospect says “No,” find out what they are saying “No” to. Are they saying “No” to all 20 products? Are they saying “No” to “I don’t want to diversify my income?” No to ”I don’t know anyone who needs or wants any of your 20 products?” That’s a lot to say “No” to. I recommend that you find out exactly what your prospects are truly saying “No” to.

Rule #5 Don’t be a bug. Do not ever “bug” family and friends about your company. Sometimes Networkers get extremely focused, which is good, and it should never be suppressed. Focus is what creates “eliteness.” Just be disciplined as to what and who deserves that focus. If it’s a friend or family member who clearly isn’t interested, quit wasting time there and go get in front of people who do want to be a part of your business or a product consumer.

Your warm market is an important part of your business. Abuse it and pretty soon you’ll notice they don’t return your phone calls anymore. Keep these five rules in mind when you’re at holiday gatherings this year and you will see that you can have a successful business and keep the respect of your family and friends.

And there you have it – five rules to follow when working with your friends and family.

Much respect and admiration,

Tim Sales

Paying Your Dues in MLM

October 18, 2010 Network Marketing

I can’t tell you how many times I have seen great people give up after very weak attempts at their business. If people really knew what it took, I mean REALLY, perhaps they would think twice! I am going to be brutally frank here, and might even risk ruffling some feathers. We have been at this a very, very long time. We have seen people come, and we have seen people go. We have participated in the success of people who have gone from nothing to  multiple six figure income earners, and there is nothing more rewarding than to watch that kind of growth. Sticking with it and building an income in mlm can be a truly rewarding experience.

On the flip side, we have seen struggle, and that is painful to watch when you care for people. No matter how you slice it, as Jim Rohn used to say “Everyone has to pay their $10 at the door”, no exceptions. What’s interesting is that some people accept it, hunker down, with a do-whatever-it-takes attitude. Others have a “try it” attitude. You know the ones, who come to you and say “I tried it, and it just didn’t work for me”. There is a large percentage of people who are somewhere in the middle. They are willing to do whatever it takes, as long as it is on their terms.

When folks come to us and say “it”s just not working”..I always ask them “How many people have you talked to this week?” The hard cold facts are always the facts. They are sobering, but nonetheless, the reason, the bottomline most of the time as to why business is slow. Another Jim Rohn ism is…”The more people you talk to, the more decisions you will collect, and some of them can’t help but be yes if you are talking to enough people”.

WHY do people talk to so few people? THAT is the bigger question!!  The article below will enlighten you. Mark Yarnell is one of the founding fathers in our great industry. He has had a huge career, and written some of the greatest textbooks for network marketing how-to in existence, like Your First Year In Network Marketing, and one of the first I ever wore-out back in the 90′s.

7 Ways To Capitalize on Fall in MLM

September 8, 2010 Network Marketing

Halleluyah! Summer is over and it was a good one.  We had a blast. But alas, a few more minds will be focused on working and school.

I got to thinking today about how grateful I am for the incredible lifestyle we enjoy as a result of network marketing. We are fortunate to enjoy time freedom, with the ability to make our own hours. When it comes to family this can be a good thing and a bad thing. Because our time is our own, it’s easy to get caught up in working constantly, especially when you are as passionate about what you do as we are! Lesson learned this summer:

TAKE TIME TO BE WITH THOSE YOU LOVE …..THEY ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD

After savoring the end of Summer, it’s time to dive into Fall! This is my favorite time of year, both in our business and in my life! I love the change in the weather, the colors of the leaves, (in Salt Lake City they are spectacular!) and the change in the air. as far as business, people turn their FOCUS to money, business, school, the upcoming holidays, and the year ending.

September, October, and November are historically the three BIGGEST MONTHS in MLM.This is also Convention season, when all the MLM Companies hold their yearly Conferences, and associates from around the country fly into one city to meet together in the thousands to ROCK THE HOUSE. We meet, me mingle, we learn. You have an amazing opportunity to make priceless connections with people to advance your business. Nowhere else can you learn in the way you can as a LIVE event.

Choosing The Right Company – MLM Rankings Resource

August 24, 2010 Network Marketing

Strategically watching your market is a very important part of what we do. I just happened to be cruising by MLM Rankings.com today for some information. It got me thinking about what you need to look for in a company.

There is a common thread I noticed on this list that I want to show you however.  What is the common thread?? They are all unique – different products (for the most part). This tells us that our market is looking for A CHANGE!

We like to use this Acronym D.S.A

Different:

Is your product something unique? Patent protected? Are there 25 other similar types of the same thing, or when people hear about your product, do you have to explain yourself and say “Yes it’s a juice, BUT…. “  Are you going to see it in Costco in a couple of years?  If you have a solid, unique product, you can stand out from the hundreds and hundreds of other network marketing products/opportunities all competing for your customer/new distributor!

Sustainable:

Is your product something that people fall in love with and when they do, they can’t live without it? Is it something that in tough times, people will still buy it because of the impact it makes on their life? it’s no secret that the economy is down. To sustain your autoship income, people must be absolutely 125% SOLD on your product, and be so sure they have to have it that they will stay on autoship no matter what. So, you have to have a product that is that good! The worst thing in the world is having to continually keep “plugging the leaking bucket”. This means that you would have to keep sponsoring people as fast as they are dropping off their autoship. That is NO FUN. That is a job! Always ask “What is your retention rate?”

Advantage:

Does your company/product/opportunity give you a distinct advantage in the marketplace?  How far out in front are you? Are you a category creator? What kind of management does the company have? Probably the single BIGGEST issue (THE FOUNDERS) Have they run multi billion dollar companies AND consistently sustained the growth? What are the PRINCIPLES AND VALUES of the company Leadership? What about Strategic Training for the associates?

Put these three elements together and evaluate any opportunity. It’s a good measuring stick. Think about your 3-5 year plan and if your company has the structure and components to take you where you want to go in that time frame.

Something To Think About!

PS. I  was gleeful when I saw that BOTH the opportunities that pay us our full time income, are on the TOP 10 LIST FOR “Top Gainers Last 30 Days“.  Go there and look for your company!

If you are ATHLETIC or at all open to finding out why ASEA is #2 on the list..have a peek.

As for #10 Enagic (Kangen water™), Find out why we receive More Checks Than Bills into our mailbox, all month long. There’s a reason these two companies are growing steadily in the slowest mlm month of the year.OK…enough with the shameless promotions for a while!!

The #1 Secret To Success In MLM

July 26, 2010 Network Marketing

Let’s start a little outside the box…What do you think The #1 Secret to Failure in MLM is? .. Giving Up!! Quitting!! Throwing in the towel; saying you can’t do it; saying yes to your j.o.b!

SO….What is The #1 Secret to SUCCESS IN MLM??

Be Here In A Year, and Vow That Failure is Not an Option!! The only way you can fail at this is if you quit. .You might have heard this before. But it is glossed over way too lightly. People drop like flies in our industry. Did you know that only 3% are making the good money?

We see it over, and over and over. People who join the business, call us and say “I am so excited, I am really going to make a lot of money!!” Do we believe them?  It may sound cruel but- never. They can be the biggest hot-shot.. We  like to say “honk as you’re goin’ by!!” They can have the best story, the best ideas, the best list, etc. But it is all talk, without a few things: COMMITMENT + PERSISTENCE + DETERMINATION + ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY

The most  critical ingredient by far that you need in your business is COMMITMENT. It’s sorely lacking all around us. Take a good look in your heart and ask your self, “How committed am I to making this work? Will I be doing this a year from now?

It all starts with a DECISION. The root of the word decision means to “cut off from any other possibility” So if you are TRULY COMMITTED, and you decide to make this work..it’s a done deal!! YOU CAN RELAX!! The rest is just foot work!! There is NO other outcome!

But sometimes it doesn’t go so well, and there are bumps in the road. Times can get tough, and people say NO. Negative family and friends get us down.

You have to have Bull Dog Determination when you get in Network Marketing!! If you don’t, the first disappointment that comes along will blow you right out of the business. It’s like this: If you purchase a franchise like a McDonald’s, you are going to invest about a quarter of a million dollars or more. You are going to go through very specific, intensive training, and be given many specialized tools to set up your restaurant exactly like all the other McDonald’s in a systematized way. Do you think that if you open your restaurant, and had a bad first week, or even first month, you would even dream of walking away? Of course not. Yet people do it every day in network marketing, like it’s a throw away. Why do you think it is so easy to walk away from? The cost of entry is low – The price you pay if you walk away is practically nothing – you are only letting one person down usually, yourself, or maybe a spouse, and no premium is put on you quitting!!

What if you HAD TO STICK IT OUT NO MATTER WHAT?? How would you approach your business every day, if you knew you and your family’s LIFE DEPENDED ON IT? I am not kidding. Online marketing business is getting more and more expensive when you add up all the things you need to be successful. So you have some investment. That’s a very good thing!!

Many people in this industry, especially the part-timers (which are the majority of your downline) approach the business like a HOBBY. So guess how it pays them? Like a HOBBY!

True commitment, application of your time, and investment of your commitment will yield huge benefits. Add to that some tracking and accountability, which changes your daily method of operation from hobby-like, to business-like, and you now have the makings of some real income producing activities! Keep accurate records, and plan your time accordingly. For instance, if you were doing a hobby, you might spend two hours on the internet surfing, and pay no mind to what sites you were on and what you did. For your business, you might pre plan your time and those same two hours, you can record one hour blog syndications, and 30 minutes making videos, 30 minutes following up on friending strategies on Facebook etc. Then you are effectively using your time.

What about actual money making activities? Were any of the afore mentioned money making, or what we call revenue generating? A Money making activity is classified as any activity that progresses your prospect towards a decision for your primary business. There are many, many other activities that circle around and lead up to money making activities, such as social media, blogging, syndicating, advertising, webinars, trainings, video marketing etc. You can generate all the leads in the world, build all the relationships on facebook etc. You can have tons of friends but what are they worth to you if you are not translating them into sales?

So in closing, look down the road to July 26, 2011. What will your business look like? What is your commitment level right now? How serious are you about your primary company and completing the goals you set? You can achieve your dreams with an unwavering commitment to yourself and the decision you make to overcome absolutely any obstacle that comes your way. If you are persistent and consistent day in and day out with the money making activities required, and you keep on going….YOU WILL WIN!!! There is no other possibility. The only way you can fail is if you quit, so just tell yourself right now FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION…I WILL BE HERE IN ONE YEAR!
