Are You Practicing The Fundamentals?

by lmorris

Every Coach Drills his or her players on the FUNDAMENTALS over and over!!

What are they in what we do?

  • See The People
  • Tell The Story
  • Build For Events
  • Follow Up

When you really  get good at doing these 4 CORE  things in a MASSIVE ACTION format..

you will be producing some major income! When you TEACH these 4 things to your team…

and they teach their teams etc….

well…then we’re talking “sipping out of the coconut” money!!

1) See The People / Collecting & Capturing People

Seeing the people is anything that entails bringing a NEW CONTACT into your sales process, or in front of your offer. Have lots of ways going at once so that you are not depending on “one lake to fish in” so to speak. Talk to people, make friends in all the social sites, go to meet ups, post content and plaster it everywhere, join groups and network, post flyers with your website link. You get the idea!! Capture their information on a capture page, email list, business card etc.

2) Tell The Story/ Communicating

This is where people hear from you in your funnel,  or are moved to a presentation, conference call and onto some type of webinar, website etc. In the offline world it is when you do a presentation one-on-one, or take someone to a meeting. It is also when you make initial phone presentations. Picture a baseball diamond, and this is second base.

3) Build For Events

One of the most lucrative and secret keys that the BIG LEADERS understand. When you truly learn how to build for events, it will make you more money than any other step. An event is not just a meeting. It is a conference call or a webinar again. It could be a special call that you throw together strategically with your super cool up-line who you are edifying because you hit it off with her at an event, and she wants to meet your team. If you build it right in that time period, that could only be a day…and you edify her properly..and she edifies YOU..she ends up making you look like a KING OR QUEEN. Regional and National events drive our business. NEVER go to them alone!! If you do, you will always wish you had your team there with you. If you have not sponsored anyone, of course go!! Build, Build, Build for events. Companies and leaders are always building to the next event..watch with those eyes and you will see!

4$$$ Follow Up / Close

Yes! Yes! The fortune really IS in the follow up! If you go to all the trouble of practicing all this, and you don’t follow the people you work with, you won’t close sales. Your List that you are building is going to be worth its weight in gold! So how you strategically close people in your emails is very important. If you truly KNOW YOUR MARKET, they won’t know they are being closed, because you are simple bringing them what they already want and are looking for!

As for “offline” there is no reason you should have to close your own sales.  If you feel alone in your business, you are on the wrong team. Plain and simple.Your upline should be doing 3-way calls for you, and closing your prospects for you, and if you’re not doing that…give us a shout and we will coach you on how to ask for their help.

Hello Larry and Laura,

Are Your Practicing The Fundamentals? is an important question. If we don’t develop skills as Larry illustrated in basketball all the X’s and O’s are not executed with success. Our business depends upon our skills even with all the marketing systems that we have. Thanks so much for reminding us how much our success depends on developing our skills

Thanks

Hi Larry and Laura,

Great list!! I love all the tips and especially the follow up. It’s amazing how few people make the initiative to contact a business card they’ve picked up. A few weeks ago I went to a huge festival and picked up at least a dozen business cards and emailed the vendors a couple days later. Most seemed surprised that I remembered … the fortune really is in the follow up :) .

Great post.

Truely great reminder of the fundamentals. I often find myself forgetting them. The most important is the follow up. But we must also remember to get the contacts information first, hey!

Hallo Laura and Larry,
Great topic and you are so right with those fundumentals , I come across a lot of people who gave a link to join a company or business and than you never hear from them again. I am not waisting my time on the nonsens, I want to work with leaders and to find them you and they have to show that they are willing to work, coach, lead etc.
Thanks for sharing,
cheers…Mario…

Great value that you are giving. All your points are so valid and important. The one that jumped out at me was Follow through! I know how critically important it is, but it seems like I get so involved in making sure I am following my to do list that Follow up gets put on the back burner. Balance is key and we are all always growing, right?
Thanks guys for the great lesson!

Hey Larry and Laura,

Awesome article and video on the fundamentals of network marketing. Online or offline these basic fundamentals have been the same since Amway and Watkins and they are not about to change anytime soon! I would just like to say the step that really increased my business was the events! Weekly meetings, and quarterly conventions provided my team and I with motivation and education that is truly priceless. Always promote events, they are so powerful.

Thanks for sharing this,

Larry & Laura, your simple 4 step process is truly all it takes to make network marketing work for you. Events are especially powerful at not only motivating your team, but they are also great places to learn the tools of the trade, not to mention a place where you can connect with like minded people with whom you can share experiences and create a support network.

We tend to over complicate the network marketing business, so thank you for breaking it down into 4 simple steps.

Very enjoyable article, and you’ve done an excellent job of covering all the basics. I coached a group that ranged from 600 to 700 for nearly a decade as a district manager for a global direct sales company. The biggest challenge for me was your point about “seeing the people” since I managed 4 Islands and the company gave me such a small travel allowance I could only visit my other islands once a quarter. It’s amazing how creative you can become when you need to … and for me that meant mastering webinars. Thanks for the refresher!

Hi Larry and Laura,

Good post about how simple it really is ! It’s just the matter of keeping up the action to do the simple things… And keep connecting with people – old and new contacts. Also leave alone the ones that are not ready yet – but not forgetting them altogether. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Larry and Laura,
The basics work when we start our businesses …so why do we try and complicate things?
You would think that we would have learnt by now that network marketing is not a complicated business ….as you say basics! basics! basics!

Good to meet you thanks to TSA.

Great post…good reminder for me as I have recently started my new mlm business…
Got out of mlm for a while.

Here’s a next step after “planning the event: Just read a great networking tip for them:
Check out the RSVP list for people you know who are attending. Send them a message asking to meet up at the event. If you do not know people on the list, you might want to check out a few by searching for them on LinkedIn. If they have a profile, you can find out something about them and then try to connect with them online or at the event.

Larry and Laura,

It is refreshing to see the fundamentals so clearly outlined, amidst all the clutter of internet frills. It is obvious that you have practiced what you preach and have experienced the real world of network marketing. I remember the theme song from the movie CasaBlanca: “Just remember this — a kiss is still a kiss — the fundamental things apply — as time goes by…”

“Play it again, Sam”

You have isolated the ACTION steps that are fundamental. Behind those actions are the underlying principles. The “new school” theme stresses that “the money is in the list, and people buy from those they know, like, and trust (the list), and we need to build relationships first, and THEN pitch our product or opportunity.” So what is new about that? Those have always been the fundamentals.

What amuses (and annoys) me is that some internet salespersons have exaggerated the “differences” between the “old school” methods and the “new school” methods in order to sell more information packages online. The saying that “It is not your fault; you’ve been lied to” has great sales appeal. It sells lots of training packages and makes the gurus rich.

The real truth is that the fundamentals have always been virtually the same. I think the reason most people fail in network marketing, offline or online, is that they don’t understand or apply those fundamentals. If someone actually did not teach you those fundamentals, then maybe you really have been “lied” to. But it is not a matter of “old school” vs. “new school.” Those were the fundamentals fifty years ago, as of course, they still are.

Hi Larry and Laura,

Yes, you describe the fundamentals of Network Marketing here. I have found pending events are particularly powerful. I remember travelling an hour to Sydney in a minbus full of team members once. It was a real buzz!

I find that it often takes a lot of follow up to “close” people. It all depends on circumstances and timing. The ability to create carefully worded emails that get a reaction is key in the on line world. There are plenty of people to talk to but it takes a lot of sifting to find the ones ready to talk business with.

Hi Loren!

Thank you for recognizing these key points. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in all the distractions of the online world, or life in general. This has always helped me to stay on purpose, as well as keep our people moving forward and performing the correct activities in their daily method of operation.

Hi Larry and Laura:

These four core, basic fundamentals, are so important to both offline and online business. Really integrating them, as you say, is essential to building a solid business. It just makes sense that in order to grow a business we must continually network and build our clientele; continually feed them information, build for events and build rapport and so build the relationship and trust; and then, of course, follow up and stay in contact. Good, solid business building!
