A Formula for Breakthrough – BE – DO- HAVE

by lmorris

A dear friend gave me a very needed “kick in the pants” over the weekend, in a most loving way. He shared with me a simple course correction that I could make in my approach to life and my network marketing business that would have a significant effect on results, and happiness. It was so impactful that it touched me emotionally. Well..it slapped me between the ears and upside the head actually! That’s the mark of TRUTH lazering in on the SOUL. I remembered that this same friend had forwarded this very special article by Dave Saunders to me, and thought , “I have read this information many times and I must not have been ready to “get it AGAIN”…just when I needed to apply it most! So I decided to post this special article adding what I like to call “FORMULA FOR BREAKTHROUGH”…..entitled:

BE-DO-HAVE  By Dave Saunders

I reached a point where I had done well, but had hit a plateau.  I wanted more.  I wanted to build my business more successfully, and I wanted to continue growing.  I asked a trusted mentor what to do.  His response: “Be Do Have.”

I had heard this lesson before.  In fact, I had heard it from more than one person.  And it wasn’t the response that I was looking for.  I wanted to know what to do!  I wanted him to tell me what to do so I could go work hard and create explosive growth in my business.  I was willing to work hard—really hard.  In fact, I was willing to work harder and do more than anyone else.  Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?

I decided to take a breath and be a bit more receptive.  “Okay,” I said, “tell me how Be Do Have is going to build my business.  Although the truth is, what I really want to know is just what to DO.”

As he explained to me the reality of Be Do Have, the clouds finally began to part.  I started to see the real difference between people who are successful in this business and those who struggle to even get started.  So many people DO the same things to build a business.  I’ve tried many of them myself.  I may have even tried all of them myself.  If there’s a reaching out method to DO, I’ve probably Done it.  (The truth is, in this business there really aren’t that many different things we can Do.)

Some people Do these things and seem to have all they dream of.  Others Do these same things and seem to get nowhere.  Clearly, no one is born knowing how to sell or market better than anyone else.  I’ve seen people start out doing badly and then, inexplicably, get a fire under their businesses and rocket to the top.  Why?

Gandhi famously said,

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

If everyone is Doing the same basic things, there’s only one factor that separates those with the results they expect and those without: not the Do but the Be.  People who focus on their own Be certainly Do the things that get them what they want to Have.  But the real difference, in those who focus on their Be, is the invisible power behind the Do.

Any baseball player can hit, throw and catch.  There aren’t many other things to Do in that sport.  The best baseball players simply take that limited portfolio of things they can Do and put magic into it through the power of their Be.

Sammy Sosa’s focus was to Be a Home Run King.  He would swing hard, and skillfully, at nearly everything that came his way.  He didn’t care that he was also the Strike-out King.  His passion and energy was focused behind wanting to Be the Home Run King.  It seems his Be and his Do were very much in alignment, because what does he Have?   He has the title of Home Run King.

What do you want to Be?  Focusing on your Be is more than just setting goals.  Your Be includes your attitude and beliefs, your mindset, your intentions, your core values and perspective and then finally your goals.  Wanting X dollars per month just isn’t enough, that’s only a Have, not a Be.  You must want to Be something, too.  Ask yourself questions about why you want certain things.  Why do you want X dollars per month, and what will you Be when you have it?  It’s through this process alone that we truly develop ourselves and finally Have all those things we desire.

Your Be must be clear.  Think of a treasure map where you are waiting for yourself at the X that marks the spot of all those things you want for yourself and others.  It’s working on your Be that will move you closer to your treasure.  If you were on an island looking for real treasure, would you worry about whether you should step, run, skip or crawl to the treasure?  Or would your focus Be on where the treasure is?  If you found a pit full of snakes along the way, you would jump over it.  Your Be is the treasure, not the pit.  The Do simply happens when your Be is in clear focus.

I have an engineering background.  As engineers, we are taught that design is critical before implementation.  It only recently occurred to me that this is Be Do Have in action.  Have you ever heard the expression, “If you want a better world, build a better you?”  that’s Be Do Have again.  Gandhi famously said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”  Another Be Do Have.  It pops up everywhere; it’s a universal truth.

It’s amazing what you can see when the clouds finally part.  I’m still learning.  I know my mentor is too.  He seems ready to teach this to anyone who will listen.  He knows who he is and I figure the only way I can thank him enough is to teach anyone who will listen to me.  After all, that comes from my own Be.

Hi Laura,

Most people have got it the other way round; Have, do be…

The moment I realised this, things were never the same since a couple years ago. Glad I turned this equation around to serve me!
Love Gandhi’s quotes!

Larry and Laura, you caught my attention with this inspiring post and its simple and yet so profound words to live by – Be Do Have. And Beth, you put the icing on the Be with Be still ~ Be open ~ Be love ~ Be free.

Aaah, the Be-Do-Have principle. This is what I wrote my very first blog post about! So very near and dear to my heart. :)

While it seems so basic, I believe this is where people falter most. People get so focused on the having that they think it’s about doing, doing, doing. People get so focused on the Getting that they forget it’s about the Giving! This is why I’m a big fan of meditation. It is through meditation that we really learn to Be. Be still ~ Be open ~ Be love ~ Be free. It is in the Being that our life begins to flow and possibilities seem endless. In the doing, we just spin our wheels in frustration and turmoil.

Thanks for sharing this wisdom Larry & Laura!

Laura and Larry,
Thanks so much for sharing this message….. what a great mind-shift. I love the concept of “build a better you.” That is so empowering! I can picture that on a t-shirt and on a wall plaque…. It would be a great reminder when starting the day……

Wishing you both a wonderful day……

Hi Larry & Laura,

What a wonderful post. I’ve never quite thought of my Be in this light before, but it makes perfect sense. I’m in the process of rebuilding my belief and faith in myself and this post will be of tremendous value to me. I read something several months ago that went something like this, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” I’m reminded of that statement as I read your post because I have been focusing on rebuilding my Be during the past few days, so this post is very timely.
Thank you for sharing the Be Do Have philosophy with us!

Wendy

P.S. – I believe we have something in common and that is our Network Marketing Company. I would love to talk to you about it. :)
